The World of Beanie Kids
Launched in Australia in September 1997, Beanie Kids were initially released as a line of playful plush for children, but it didn’t take long for collectors to see the potential for Beanie Kids as a collectable line. A secondary collectors market was soon established within Australia, creating demand and generating increased sales. Since then, the popularity of these cute collectables has grown, resulting in millions of units sold around Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
There are currently over 700 different and unique Beanie Kids that have been released since the initial launch, with new designs coming out each and every month.
What is a Beanie Kids (BK)?
Australia’s No 1 Individual Collectable, 21cm tall bean filled bear, available in a variety of themes and characters.
5 x New designs released every month (2 designs targeted at the girls market, 1 design targeted at the boys market, 1 neutral design - that can be purchased by either a girl or a boy, and 1 hooded animal design).

Each Beanie Kid design has its own special name, date of birth and star sign. Why are Beanie Kids retired?
5 new Beanie Kid designs are released into the marketplace each month, ensuring that there is a wide variety of designs available at all times. As well as new releases each month, selected Beanie Kids are also retired each month. This means that no more of the retired Beanie Kid design is ever made, and once stocks have been depleted, the design is no longer available for reorder – making these retired Beanie Kid designs very special and sought after collector’s items.
